Lot details Registration No: 41 DTO Chassis No: B156FA Mot Expiry: Aug 2004
The vendor acquired this 1958 S1 4-door saloon in 1998 and, though in fairly sound order, the brakes including master cylinder, wheel cylinders and brake pipes were fully overhauled. The fuel pump was renewed together with other electrical parts including coil and distributor. In 2000, the dash woodwork was restored and door cappings, headlining cloth and soundproofing renewed. A 2001 change from crossplies to radials transformed ride and handling, while the top end was overhauled and battery renewed in 2002.
The original spec included power steering, heated rear window, picnic trays and radio, and although presented as a Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud I including grille, bumpers, wheeltrims and speedo, the 4887cc 6-cylinder engine still carries its Bentley badge and the car is registered as a Bentley. The former registration CON 2 was transferred to another vehicle in 1959 when the current 41 DTO plates went on the car.
Bodywork and grey over black paintwork are described as being very good and interior excellent, engine in excellent order and 3-speed auto-transmission very good. The 43,718 miles displayed when entered is believed by the owner to be the genuine total mileage, the MOT certificates on file confirming that only 2851 miles have been driven in the last five years. Both oil and filter have been religiously changed every October, however, and plugs and points were last renewed in 2002. Luxurious, handbuilt and, potentially, great value too.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
