Supplanting the 500SEC as flagship of the Mercedes-Benz C126 range, the 560SEC was launched at the September 1985 Frankfurt Motor Show. Sharing the same basic M117 engine architecture as its lesser sibling, the new model employed a longer stroke and Bosch KE 111 Jetronic ignition. Credited with some 300bhp and 325lbft of torque in non-catalyst guise, the 560SEC boasted four-speed automatic transmission as standard. Reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 6.9 seconds and 150mph, the high-performance coupe proved a rewarding and enjoyable drive thanks to its all round independent suspension (complete with back axle acceleration stabiliser), four-wheel disc brakes and power assisted steering. The fastest, most powerful Mercedes-Benz of its generation, the 560SEC was a strong seller with some 5,012 despatched worldwide in 1988.
Finished in arctic green with white leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "very good" condition with regard to its 5547cc V8 engine, four-speed automatic transmission, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork and paintwork. Though, he states that the chrome trim has suffered "some deterioration" in places and that the front tyres are part worn. Reportedly in the current (second) ownership since 1992 - but partnership registered from 1992-1995 - 'E560 JGV' benefits from a Carat Duchatelet body kit, Pioneer CD / Radio / Tape stereo (complete with walnut fascia) and engine immobiliser. Believed but not warranted to have covered 86,540 miles from new, this well-specified Mercedes is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until January 29th 2007 and road tax until July 31st 2006.
