Lot details Registration No: BS 9154 Chassis No: 219918 Mot Expiry: July 2005
Offered here is a US-built1918 Dodge which has 4-door tourer coachwork by Holden. Chassis number 219918 was imported to this country from Australia, all import and value added taxes having been paid, says the current owner. He tell us that the car is in the process of being UK-registered.
For according to a recent letter on file, dated 6 July of this year, the Chairman of the UK Chapter of the Society of Automotive Historians has confirmed the dating of this Dodge to be 1918, being entirely representative of the 4-cylinder touring model manufactured by the Dodge Brothers of Detroit in the model year and the serial numbers of chassis and engine are correct and fall between the upper and lower limits of those numbers for that year. In the Society's view, therefore, and as a DVLA approved adjudicator on vehicle dating, the car should be allocated by the DVLA with a registration letter/number combination which is commensurate with this 1918 date of manufacture - ie two letters, followed by four numbers, with no prefixes or suffixes.
It is not known whether the 42,978 miles displayed on the odometer when entered for this auction is the genuine total mileage. However, the chassis is said to be currently very good as is the open bodywork, and the blue paintwork and the brown trim in very good condition too. The 3.4-litre 4-cylinder engine and the 3-speed gearbox as well as the electrical equipment are reportedly in very good order.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
