Lot details Registration No: A177VUU Chassis No: WDB12602222089298 Mot Expiry: July 2007
Introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1979, the new W126 S-class was a quantifiable improvement over its W116 predecessor. Lauded by the contemporary motoring press as the 'best car in the world', it was not only lighter and more fuel-efficient than the outgoing model but also offered an improved ride and sharper handling. Styled by Bruno Sacco, its sleek silhouette hid all-round independent suspension, disc brakes, power assisted steering and a range of powerful all alloy V8 engines (later supplemented by more fuel-efficient straight sixes). Still a staple part of many a diplomatic fleet, the W126 remains sought after to this day thanks to its impeccable build quality and timeless lines.
Finished in petrol blue with beige velour upholstery, this particular example is variously described by the vendor as being in "fair" (interior trim, bodywork, paintwork) or "good" (2746cc straight-six engine, automatic transmission, electrical equipment, chassis, wheels / tyres) condition. Said to have had "only one owner" and to have covered "82,000 miles from new", 'A177 VUU' is apparently accompanied by an "original service book" containing "six main dealer and two specialist stamps". Reportedly benefiting from "alloys, electric windows, electric sunroof, air-conditioning and metallic paint", a "recent service (bill enclosed)" has left it "driving superbly". A lot of Mercedes for the money, it is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until July 2007.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
