Lot details Registration No: CVG244F Chassis No: DB6/3225/R Mot Expiry: March 2012
Introduced at the 1965 Motor Show, the Aston Martin DB6 was notable as the first model to be engineered following a factory move from Feltham to Newport Pagnell. Although, it shared the same visage as the outgoing DB5, the newcomer enjoyed notably better high-speed stability and interior space thanks to the provision of a Kamm tail and 3.7-inch longer wheelbase respectively. Grafted over a sheet steel platform chassis, the four-seater's hand-finished aluminium panels helped contribute to a claimed 1,466kg kerb weight. Praised by the contemporary motoring press for its poise and handling, the DB6 employed all-round coil-sprung suspension, four-wheel disc brakes and rack-and-pinion steering. Powered by the fabulous Tadek Marek designed 3995cc DOHC straight-six engine - which was quoted as developing 282bhp and 280lbft in standard tune - the model could be had with either five-speed manual or automatic transmission. Though, even when fitted with the latter as a no-cost option, it was reputedly capable of 140mph.
According to its accompanying factory issued Warranty this particular example - chassis number DB6/3225/R - was supplied new to Grants Plastics Ltd. An automatic model, the earliest of its nineteen surviving MOT certificates was issued on 18th March 1974 at an indicated mileage of 24,387. Believed but not warranted to have covered just 28,000 additional miles since then (the odometer reading stood at 51,977 as of late September 2011), a dated receipt on file shows that the Aston Martin entered the current ownership on 12th March 1985. Soon after acquisition, the DB6 is said to have been treated to the following works: a respray, new twin petrol pump, replacement front shock absorbers, skimmed brake discs, overhauled brake callipers (new seals / pistons; stainless steel pistons being used on the rear), new jacking points and replacement non-ferrous brake pipes.
Understood to have been kept garaged and to have covered a mere 9,000 miles during the course of the past twenty-six years, the four-seater's most recent journey of note was during April this year when it was used to chauffeur the vendor's niece on the occasion of her wedding (a 250-mile round trip). Reportedly serviced on an annual basis, the Aston Martin's most recent bout of maintenance saw it benefit from a new heater water control valve, offside steering ball joint and replacement rear stainless steel silencers. Finished in Red Metallic with Black leather upholstery, 'CVG 244F' is described by the seller as being in "fair" condition with regard to its engine, automatic transmission, electrical equipment, interior trim, bodywork and paintwork. Scheduled to be driven to the auction from Norfolk, this appealing DB6 is offered for sale with the aforementioned factory issued warranty, two handbooks (one original, one replacement), history file and MOT certificate valid until March 2012.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
