Lot 81 - 1962 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Competition Roadster

1962 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Competition Roadster

Lot details
Registration No: CAS 770
Chassis No: 878419
Mot Expiry: June 2005

This late entered E Type competitions car was first supplied by the Browns Lane factory to Peter Lindner of low-drag E Type racer fame; the celebrated German Jaguar race driver owning the 3.8 roadster, then a left-hand drive car, from 1962 through to 1967, when it was acquired by Nico Clemente in the USA. The March 1997 issued Jaguar Daimler Heritage Certificate with the car confirms 24 October 1962 manufacture, 8 November despatch and this first ownership of Lindner as well as the original colour combination of Carmen Red with black interior.
Today, having been totally rebuilt with many new components for the 2003 season to authentic 1962 specification with aluminium bonnet and doors, and vented boot, this Jaguar is presented as an on-the-button Historic Racer which has been registered with the FIA as such. Now with right-hand drive steering and, as you can see for yourself, with monocoque and red painted body panels in excellent condition, CAS 770 has a triple Weber fed 3.8-litre race engine, which is reportedly in good order and according to a 10 February 2002 dynamometer data sheet in the documents file was producing 268bhp at 5300rpm. The four speed manual transmission is claimed to be excellent, with both wire wheels and black leather interior also in good condition. The car has both an MOT certificate and a tax disc current which are valid until 24 June and the end of July respectively.
During the 2003 season, owner and car took part in the well supported Gentleman Drivers series, taking in such classic race circuits as Pau, Monza, Dijon and the Nurburgring and finishing 4th in class in the FIA European Championship. The all-important FIA papers in the documents file confirm that this superb racing Jaguar has been correctly described and categorised as a Period (E to l) FI Competition Grand Touring Car. Whilst the car is street legal, having both an MOT certificate and a current tax disc which are valid until 24 June and the end of July respectively.
