Italian minnows FB Mondial made well engineered racing motorcycles during the 1950s, the marque’s most historic milestones being Tarquinio Provini and Cecil Sandford’s 125 and 250cc World Championships in 1957. Mondial also made road bikes, commencing in 1950 with a four-stroke 125 - although, unable to make enough of them to fund their racing, they were forced to quit. This was how the great and late Mike Hailwood came to campaign a pair of ex-factory team Mondial 250cc racers with great success during the 1959 and 1960 seasons.
However, Mondial’s origins actually go back to 1929 when the four Boselli brothers founded their FB to sell other firms machines. The first Mondials, which were made at FB’s Bologna workshops and were double overhead cam singles, were instantly on the pace, taking the first three 125cc world titles from the series inception in 1949.
This 1956-built and very rare Mondial roadster, a four-stroke 200cc single in blue and white, has been ridden recently and has both current MOT test certificate and tax disc, the latest certificate and disc being valid until the end of December. Featured in various magazine articles, it comes with current V5.
