Mercedes-Benz have a well earned reputation for effecting permanent evolution rather than too many revolutions. Their styling always seems to endure and even older models rarely look out of date. Most deservedly, the three-pointed star has come a symbol of engineering excellence.
The current keeper tells us that this 300SE, a 1966 Stuttgart built, original UK-spec and therefore righthand drive, two-door convertible, spent its early life in the Channel Island of Jersey, the second owner bringing it to the mainland in 1979. The third and last owner acquired the car in 1981.
We understand that the 3-litre six-cylinder engine was rebuilt at great expense by London Mercedes dealers Alan Day in 1983, there being a letter from the 1981-2004 owner in the documents file to verify this work. The motor is said currently to run sweetly, the four-speed automatic transmission to be in excellent order, the electrics to be very good and the car to drive superbly.
The bodyshell, above and below, is claimed to be in excellent shape, the dark blue paintwork very good, the grey leather interior excellent and the alloy wheels also very good. The 102,000 miles displayed on the odometer when entered for this sale is believed by the vendor to be the genuine total mileage for the car from new. Whilst the MOT test pass certificate in the documents file will not require renewal until September of next year.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
