Ford's new San Jose, California plant built Pony car was an instant showroom success when launched in April 1964, the first of many versions speedily commanding a premium from muscle car ready `Baby Boomers'. It was available in three styles, convertible, coupe or, as on this car, fastback bodywork, with five engine options in either 6 or 8-cylinder form.
The owner of this 1965-built Ford Mustang tells us that the fastback coupe with 2+2 accommodation was in receipt of a full and professionally executed rebuild earlier in the year, since when this, one of the first of the `Bullet'-type Mustang Fastbacks had only been driven some 150 miles when entered for the sale. A bare metal respray was carried out, the classic American being repainted in period-correct cellulose in Wimbledon White, and the chromework renewed. A photographic record of the work done is included among the documents.
Currently, bodywork and still virtually new paintwork are described by the vendor as being in excellent condition, the blue interior like new, too, and the 289 cu ins eight, the 3-speed manual gearbox and the electrical equipment reportedly all good. The current MOT will be valid until next May and the tax disc will not require renewal until April, while the approximately 105,000 miles that were displayed on the odometer when entered for this auction are believed by the vendor to be the genuine total mileage for the car from new.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
