Lot details Registration No: VF 2182 Chassis No: 12978 Mot Expiry: June 2005
From being a book keeper at pioneer automobile makers Ceirano, who were bought out by FIAT in 1899, Vincenzo Lancia of Turin became chief test driver. A weekend racer, he also won his first event at Padua in 1900 and set up his own workshop in 1906. By 1969, however, the by then Carlo Pesenti owned Lancia had incurred such massive debts that only a takeover by the Fiat empire could ensure the marque's survival. Although no longer sold in the UK, new Lancias are still highly regarded in Italy where the marque still enjoys Presidential and Vatican patronage.
On offer here is a Lancia from those golden days between the wars, a 1925 vintage and righthand drive Lambda with characterful open tourer bodywork, the chassis, reportedly in good order, shortened before WW2. The vendor acquired the car some ten years ago, the previous owner having been the keeper since 1958. On file are various bills detailing work carried out since 1956.
Current condition of the bodywork is described as being good, although there are some chips and scratches to the blue over black paintwork. The seat has been reupholstered at some time, but the side trim is absent. Both the 2120cc 4-cylinder engine and 4-speed manual gearbox are said to be in good order. The car is likely to have been MOTd before the sale. Potential purchasers are therefore advised to check out the current test certificate in the documents office at Buxton during viewing.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
