Lot details Registration No: MMA 44H Chassis No: DB6/4068/R Mot Expiry: None
Introduced in 1965 and the penultimate of Aston Martin's DB six-cylinder series of sports saloons, the DB6 was 4 inches longer than its predecessor, the DB5, and featured a raised roofline, reshaped rear quarter windows and a Kamm-style tail which greatly improved the cars' stability at high speeds. The 3995cc engine, unchanged from the DB5, breathed through triple SU carburettors and power output in standard specification was quoted as being 282bhp.
This manual transmission example was acquired by the current owner in 2003 in partially restored condition. The body had been stripped, the chassis refurbished and all parts were boxed, ready for the rejuvenation process. The extensive restoration since undertaken has seen virtually every area of the car addressed. The bare-metal body has been painted in dark metallic grey, all chromework has been re-plated, new stainless steel bumpers have been fitted, together with new front and rear screens, new front and rear lights, new door handles and new stainless steel wheels.
The interior has been re-trimmed in claret leather with grey carpets, a new headlining, new electric window-winders and a new steering wheel have been fitted, the clocks have been redone and the boot also totally re-trimmed.
Mechanical work has seen an extensive engine overhaul to unleaded specification. New piston rings, flywheel, fuel pump, clutch and a high-geared starter motor have been installed. The crank has been re-ground, the bottom end blue-printed, the head has been crack tested and the water pump rebuilt. The radiator and oil cooler have also been refurbished and a reconditioned alternator fitted, together with a new stainless steel exhaust system.
The brakes, steering and suspension have seen the same attention to detail with all new or reconditioned parts and the rear axle has been carefully overhauled.
This delightful example of what many consider to be the last 'true' Aston has seen minimal mileage since the completion of the restoration and is offered with a Swansea V5 registration document, recently acquired MOT certificate and photographs of the bare body.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
