Lot details Registration No: KYN520D Chassis No: GHD3/94126 Mot Expiry: May 2009
Introduced in 1965, the MGB GT was a more comfortable and versatile proposition than its roadster sister. With a top speed of over 100mph courtesy of their 1798cc, B-series engine and a capable chassis featuring independent front suspension, rack and pinion steering and disc / drum brakes, each version merited the old MG marketing slogan 'Safety Fast'. Today they both enjoy a strong following and have spawned a dedicated support industry making them among the most practical and cost effective of all classic cars.
Finished in Tartan Red with black leather upholstery (piped red), this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "good overall" condition with regard to its engine, electrical equipment, interior trim, bodywork and paintwork. Benefiting from synchromesh on 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears not to mention overdrive, the MG's manual gearbox is said to have a "noisy first gear". Reportedly the subject of an extensive restoration before being "bought from a main dealer in 1992 for £6,225 by its lady owner", 'KYN 520D' is further understood to have been "garaged since and only used in the dry". Riding on wire wheels, this desirable first series GT is offered for sale with a history file containing "many invoices, old MOTs etc" and current MOT certificate valid until May 2009.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
