The Talbot name has been used for three distinctly different makes of car - the London-built British Talbot, the French Talbot or Talbot Lago, and the Anglo-French Talbots of the 1980s, which were really Chryslers renamed following Peugeot's takeover of Chrysler's Euro-operations.
Clement-Talbot was set up in North Kensington in 1902, initially importing French-made Clement-Bayards, their first all-British Talbot appearing in 1906. By 1919, the British directors of Darracq added this London-based Clement-Talbot, along with Sunbeam of Wolverhampton and London commercial vehicle makers W& G du Cros, to their portfolio. Across the Channel, in 1920, Darracq was renamed Automobiles Talbot and the former French Darracqs were made and sold under the Talbot name.
According to the vendor of the 1926-manufactured Talbot offered here, this could be the only DVS 17/75 in the world. He also believes that the righthand drive sports was owned and raced by Jules Moriceux, who was a member of the French Talbot race team. Prospective owners are advised to check out this history by inspecting the paperwork for the car in the documents office at Buxton.
It is claimed that over £25,000 has been spent on a full restoration. Chassis, Prescote Motor Carriages made open 4-seater bodywork, light and dark blue paintwork, 6-cylinder engine, electrical equipment and 4-speed manual gearbox are all claimed to be in very good condition.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
