Lot details Registration No: KPP 69G Chassis No: GCD1-5106 Mot Expiry: Aug 2005
The 118mph MGC first appeared in dealers' showrooms in 1967, utilising the same bodyshell as the 1.8-litre powered B, but with the increased weight of a 3-litre engine at the front. Due to the increased weight at the front, torsion bar rather than coil spring front suspension was employed. Open or closed-top GT versions were offered, a total of 8999 MGCs being made.
This C GT, an original right-hand drive coupe, first left MG's famous Abingdon works towards the end of the production run in 1969 and has been in the last ownership for twenty-eight years. Two-door fixed head bodywork was repainted three years ago, clutch renewed 2003, new leather interior fitted earlier this year and front screen and sealing rubbers have been renewed.
Currently, body, painted in British Racing Green, as well as black leather trim and both BMC 2912cc six (much the same specification as that employed for the power unit fitted to the final version the Austin-Healey 3000) and four-speed manual gearbox are rated by the vendor as being all good. With an unstressed six under the bonnet, a standard MGC makes a superb and effortless road car.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
