Lot details Registration No: 2118 HK Chassis No: 121700699 Mot Expiry: Exempt
- In the same previous family ownership since 1957
- History file includes purchase invoice and guarantee
- A solid and original Landie that would reward further improvement
That today's Defender is immediately recognisable as a direct descendent of its 1948 forbear, is huge testimony to Maurice Wilks' original design. Featuring extensive use of aluminium rather than steel, the irony of the Land Rover's longevity is that production was only intended to run for two to three years. Instead, it rapidly became the workhorse of the world. Until being recently acquired by the vendor, we understand this Series 1 has been in the same family ownership since 1957, passing from uncle to nephew. Retaining its original registration, both the chassis and bulkhead are said to be original and in very solid condition. Retaining working semaphore indicators fitted as an extra when new, 2118 HK is finished in green with grey interior and accompanied by copies of the original order form and purchase receipt from Harvey Hudson (£751 5s 10d!), manufacturer's guarantee certificate, and Swansea V5C. With prices for restored examples rising rapidly, this original example offers a sound basis for improvement.
