Introduced in October 1991, the Suzuki Cappuccino was a member of Japan's Kei-jidosha or microcar class. A proper two-seat sportscar with a detachable targa-type roof, its miniscule dimensions (Length: 3295mm x Width: 1395mm) not only gained it various domestic tax concessions but also made it supremely wieldy through Tokyo traffic. Equally capable on the open road, its sophisticated monocoque shell boasted all-round independent suspension (double-wishbone front, wishbone / multi-link rear), four-wheel vented / solid disc brakes and rack and pinion steering. Powered by a DOHC 657cc three-cylinder turbocharged engine mated to five-speed manual transmission, the rear wheel drive Cappuccino was surprisingly fast. Despite packing just 63.1bhp and 62.9lbft of torque, What Car magazine found one capable of 0-60mph in 8.0 seconds. Phased out of production in late 1997 after some 28,010 had been made, it remains well catered for by a number of enthusiastic owners clubs including www.score.org.uk
Finished in silver with black upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in good (interior trim, electrical equipment, chassis) to excellent (engine, gearbox, bodywork) condition. Said to have had "one previous lady owner from new", it is understood to come with "some history and original documentation". Reported to have had its "bodywork refurbished with many new panels, a quality repaint and full waxoyling", it is reputed to have further benefited from a "full service" including "new cam belt". Thought to have covered just 68,257 miles, it is offered for sale with MOT certificate current until 6th May 2006 and road tax until 30th April 2006.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
