Lot details Registration No: 546 FUG Chassis No: IE21377 Mot Expiry: July 2005
Reminiscent of their Le Mans winning D-Type in appearance, Jaguar's first E-Type with disc brakes and independent suspension all round was announced to much applause from motoring press and motoring public as a replacement for the hugely successful, though becoming rather dated XK120-150 line in 1961. The first of several E-Type models was powered by the familiar 3.8-litre six-cylinder XK engine and, thanks to the fine aerodynamics of the open or fixed head bodies offered, initially with faired-in headlamps, even in standard form the performance enjoyed by an E Type driver was sensational. The model was then further improved in 1964 when engine capacity and performance was increased with the 4235cc engine.
This E-Type, a right-hand drive Series 1 4.2 coupe, first left the Browns Lane works in 1966 and was acquired by the first and titled owner Sir Rex Arthur Lewis Cohen KBE OBE, who features in the 1980 edition of Who's Who and whose ownership is recorded in the history file.
According to the entrant, there have only been two further owners during the past twenty-two years, while original logbook and workshop manual as well as cherished registration 546 FUG are also included, as are service receipts detailing over £30,000 worth of work carried out over the years.
Monocoque, chassis frame, fixed head bodywork, blue paintwork, black leather, electrics, 4.2-litre motor and four-speed manual gearbox are all reportedly in good order, says the vendor, who rates this taxed and tested GT as being superb both inside and out.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
