Following in the wheeltracks of the already legendary XK models, the Jaguar E-Type owed much to the race-proven technology of the successful D-Type sports-racer. The first production E-Type, with disc brakes and independent suspension all round, which was a very newsworthy specification for any volume production car to have at the time, was announced in March 1961 as a replacement for the XK150. The first of the line with model defining, stunningly shaped monocoque with front chassis frame was powered by the familiar XK six, initially being of 3791cc capacity and producing an impressive 265bhp at the flywheel.
The vendor tells us that this Series 1 4.2 roadster was originally an export car and therefore with lefthand drive when it first left the Browns Lane factory in 1966 and that, following its return to this country in 1990/1, was in receipt of a total refurbishment which included conversion to the current righthand drive steering. During one ownership from 1992 to 2003, the open sports was mainly employed for Continental touring and proved to be 100 per cent reliable.
The current condition of the body panels is described as being good with both blue paintwork and red leather interior also said to be good, whilst the 4.2-litre six-cylinder XK motor and correct four-speed manual gearbox as well as the electrical items are all reportedly in good order too. The current MOT certificate is valid until next June.
PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle was originally a coupe and has had a replacement engine fitted.
