When Honda introduced the horizontally opposed, four cylinder, shaft driven Gold Wing at the 1974 Los Angeles Honda dealer convention it was very apparent that the new machine, despite having 80 bhp available, was aimed at the touring market. Technical innovations such as the under seat fuel tank to assist in keeping the centre of gravity low on a 647lb motorcycle abounded but also served to blunt any sporting characteristics. However, a number of machines with differing levels of modification did find their way onto the track.
This example was, according to the vendor, raced on the Isle of Man under the "Biggin Hill Race Team" banner with Hugh Evans in the saddle. The frame was built by Dave Degens and is equipped with a half fairing, racing single seat and tail unit combined with side panels, rear sets and clip-ons. The engine benefits from larger valves, a more aggressive camshaft and various other modifications.
Described as being in good condition throughout it is offered with a registration document.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
