Lot details Registration No: SV 8522 Frame No: 22084 Engine No: FZ1377A cc: 498 MOT Expiry Date: None
Founded in 1908 by Alfred Angas Scott, the motorcycle manufacturer that bore his name quickly developed a reputation for innovation. Indeed so advanced were its designs that rival companies were able to successfully lobby the ACU into applying a multiplier of 1.32 to Scott engine capacities when considering their eligibility for competition. Undeterred, Scott motorcycles won the prestigious Isle of Man Tourist Trophy race in both 1912 and 1913 (thanks to the efforts of Frank Applebee and Tim Wood respectively). Based around a patented, duplex-cradle frame design, the Saltaire-based concern's road-going machines were powered by a series of water-cooled, two-strokes. Known for their yowling engine note, these parallel twin-cylinder units featured overhung two-bearing crankshafts and deflector type pistons. Introduced in 1922, the Squirrel model together with its Super Squirrel and Flying Squirrel successors was famed for its smooth powerplant, brisk acceleration and agile handling. Qualities that were ably demonstrated by Tommy Hatch when he rode a Scott to third overall in the 1928 TT.
Finished in black, this particular 498cc machine is described by the vendor as being in excellent condition with regard to its engine, cycle parts, paint / brightwork, transmission, electrics and frame / suspension. Believed to have been the subject of a thorough restoration (though, sadly no paperwork survives to confirm this), it is currently SORN registered. Although reported to "run very well", it will naturally require some re-commissioning prior to road use. A rare and appealing bike, it is offered for sale with V5 registration document.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
