Lot details Registration No: PSY 296 Chassis No: BN4056893 Mot Expiry: Sep 2004
To create the Austin-Healey 100/6 in 1956, BMC uprated the 4-cylinder 100/4 with the 2.6-litre 6-cylinder BMC C Series engine and wheelbase lengthened by 2ins to provide 2+2 accommodation, though a strictly 2-seater version was also available. The model was further uprated, of course, when a 2912cc capacity motor was installed and the 3000 MkI was produced from 1959.
This 1958-built and righthand-drive 100/6 came home from South Africa in 1997 with some history. Included with the Midland-made sportscar is a Heritage certificate confirming manufacture details as well as the majority of receipts covering work carried out and former MOT test certificates, the present one being current until September.
Since acquisition, the vendor tells us, the overall condition of this vehicle has been enhanced, though only by sympathetic restoration work which has been done by marque experts. He also claims that PSY 296 has been regularly serviced and maintained only by specialists, a stainless steel exhaust being fitted in 2001.
Current condition of chassis rails, body panels and maroon paintwork is described as being good with black interior worn, though tidy. The 2639cc six, the electrical equipment and the 4-speed manual gearbox are reportedly all in good order.
Part of a private collection in Staffordshire, this claimed to be a good, tidy and useable example of the 100/6 is only being sold due to lack of use and will have been driven to our auction at Buxton.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
