When Jack Sangster acquired the bike part of Triumph in 1936, the owner of Ariel put Edward Turner in charge of Triumph bike production in Coventry. It was Turner who designed the overhead valve, parallel twin of 498cc capacity, which powered the 1937 Twin, which really formed the basis of so many Triumph milestone machines well into the 1980s. Post-WW2, production resumed at Meriden, just outside the bombed-out motor city, where a long list of classic twins were produced, all of them directly related to Triumph's first Speed Twin.
Offered here is a 1957-made 350cc Twenty-One which, the vendor tells us, has been in his ownership since 1991 since when it has only been ridden about 200 miles a year to events and shows. The bike is finished in Shell Blue, which is described as good, whilst tank rack, rare rear chromed carrier and original Triumph tool kit are all present and correct, and a Rickman screen is fitted. The cycle parts and twin-cylinder overhead valve twin are claimed to be in excellent condition.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
