Lot details Registration No: SV 9207 Chassis No: 26999 Mot Expiry: April 2008
Helping to cement the Coventry manufacturer's reputation for build quality and reliability, the Swift-Q type was introduced in 1923. Based around a sturdy, leaf-sprung, ladder-frame chassis, it was powered by a 1097cc four-cylinder engine mounted in unit with a three-speed manual gearbox. Reputedly capable of over 50mph, the newcomer was notable for its detachable cylinder head and electric starter. Evolving into the QA for 1925, the 10hp Swift adopted a longer 8ft 3in wheelbase and magneto ignition (while, front wheel brakes became standard the following year).
Finished in maroon over black with brown upholstery, this particular example is variously described by the vendor as being in "good" (engine, interior trim), "rewired" (electrical equipment) or "very good" (chassis, bodywork, paintwork) condition. Though, he notes that the transmission emits "some noise in first gear". Thought to have been supplied new to Australia as a bare chassis, the QA wears two-seater plus dickey coachwork by Damyon Bros of Melbourne. Imported to the UK via Station Works in 2001, 'SV 9207' was subsequently purchased by Capt George Power who treated it to an engine overhaul, re-wire and re-trim etc before his eyesight failed. Entering the current ownership in November 2003, the Swift has since benefited from a gearbox refurbishment, new hood, rejuvenated magneto, repaint and fresh tyres. Yet to be fully run-in (the odometer shows just 143 miles), it sports a side-mounted spare wheel, Rotax head- / sidelights, Smiths MA instruments and German Silver radiator shell. As rare as it is pretty, we are informed that this charming Swift will be offered for sale with a fresh MOT certificate as well as its existing VSCC buff form.
PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle has an MOT until April 2008.
