Lot details Registration No: KYC624D Chassis No: HBJHL37790 Mot Expiry: T.B.A.
When first produced by BMC in 1959, the Austin-Healey 3000 with 2912cc six-cylinder engine was an updated version of their previous 2.6-litre 100/6, which, in turn, replaced the earlier 2.6-litre four-cylinder 100 model. The 3000 became even more popular, though, particularly in export markets such as the US, where, with the extra-gear overdrive facility, the Big Healey was found to be a delight to drive, whether cruising or exploiting the full potential of a competition-proven ride and handling package.
This right-hand drive Healey 3000, which first left the BMC factory in 1966, was rebuilt and prepared to full rally specification by the West Country marque specialist John Chatham in 1989. A folder containing full history may be viewed pre-auction during viewing at Stoneleigh and interested parties are recommended to inspect the paperwork detailing the considerable amount of work done.
The current condition of the chassis rails and the body panels is said to be good, and the red paintwork and the black leather trim also good. The modified, though street legal motor is reportedly in good order as is the four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive, whilst the electrical equipment is said also to be working.
The vendor tells us that the MOT test certificate is likely to have been renewed by sale day and, again, potential vendors are advised to check out the latest certificate at the sale venue for themselves. Apart from clearly being capable of acquitting itself with distinction on events, thanks to upper mid-range torque, this well sorted 3000 should also double up as an outstanding road car.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
