Partially inspired by legendary New York importer Max Hoffman, the Giulietta Spider was unveiled at the 1955 Paris Salon (though, it did not become publicly available until the following year). A singularly pretty design, the newcomer's sleek lines were the work of Pininfarina. Based around a two-door monocoque bodyshell equipped with independent coil-and-wishbone front suspension, a 'live' rear axle and four-wheel drum brakes, early versions tipped the scales at approximately 860kg. Powered by Alfa Romeo's legendary DOHC four-cylinder engine allied to manual transmission, the Spider was both swift and surefooted. Updated to 101-series specification alongside the rest of the Giulietta range in late 1959, the two-seater gained a 50mm longer wheelbase and consequently more cabin space. Fitted with an enlarged 1600cc engine and rebadged as the Giulia Spider during June 1962, the iconic 101-series convertible remained in production for another three years.
Finished in Pale Blue with Pale Green leather upholstery, this particular left-hand drive example is described by the vendor as being in "excellent" (2-litre engine, five-speed manual gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim) or "immaculate" (bodywork, paintwork) condition. Reportedly "imported from California" and treated to "a professional back to metal restoration", 'EAX 298B' is further understood to be possess "flawless paintwork and chromework". Apparently given a thorough mechanical overhaul including "a new exhaust and Koni shock absorbers", the Spider boasts a more powerful Alfa Romeo 2-litre engine and five-speed manual gearbox, not to mention "a limited-slip differential and rear disc brakes". Further benefiting from "a new mohair hood and leather interior with matching carpets", the two-seater is said to retain its "original Alfa rubber mats in the boot and cockpit (under carpet)". Riding on correct type steel wheels, this pretty Giulia Spider is offered for sale with "handbook, manual, unrestored hardtop, sundry spares" and MOT certificate valid until March 2009.
