Introduced in 1964, the Thruxton represents the ultimate evolution of the company's sporting single. Derived from the Venom Clubman, the new model came as standard with all the items required to compete in production racing. An Amal GP carburettor and big valve head ensured that the engine could breathe to its maximum advantage. A consequence of the use of the Amal GP was the need for a cut out in the rear right hand side of the fuel tank to clear the instrument. Braking was aided by a twin leading shoe front brake and clip-ons, rear-sets and a humped saddle enabled the rider to adopt a position conducive to exploiting the full potential of the machine. Not visible, but equally important to the performance of the model were a close ratio gearbox, revised cams and strengthened crankcases.
The present owner, the machines fourth, acquired the example offered on the 3rd December 1998, the machine having first been registered on the 19th April 1968. During the early 1970's Ralph Seymour had modified the machine with bracing to the frame of the same type as that used on the 24 hour racer and the front and rear hubs were "scalloped" with stainless steel spokes fitted. The rebuilt engine and gearbox have both been anodised black and are described as being in "very good" condition as is the paintwork and brightwork. An Amal Mk2 Concentric carburettor is fitted to the machine which displays only 15,531 miles on the odometer at the time of consignment. It is offered with the original Amal GP carburettor, a Swansea V5C and an MOT certificate valid until 25th June 2014.
