Launched in 1963, the Jaguar S-type was marketed as more of an 'executive' car than its MKII sibling. Notably superior in terms of ride and handling thanks to the adoption of independent rear suspension (cribbed from the MKX / E-type), it also enjoyed a more spacious / luxurious interior complete with a dashboard-mounted walnut centre console. Visually distinguished by its elongated boot, flatter roofline and hooded headlamps, the S-type remained in production until 1968.
Finished in opalescent green with green leather upholstery, this particular example is equipped with the preferred 3.8 litre dohc straight six engine and desirable four-speed plus overdrive manual gearbox. In the current ownership for the last twenty-four years, it is said to have had some bodywork refurbishment in 1981-1982 and to have undergone an engine rebuild in 1989 (since which time it is thought to have covered a mere 2,000 - 3,000 miles). Taken off the road and put into dry storage some twelve years ago, it is now in need of extensive restoration. A potentially rewarding project, the vendor believes that the mileage of 88,000 shown on its odometer may well represent the total covered from new.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
