Lot details Registration No: JLR 26D Chassis No: 1E1406 Mot Expiry: March 2006
Following in the wheel tracks of the XK line, the Jaguar E-Type owed much to the race-proven technology of the legendary D-Type sports-racer. The first production E-Type, with the then very new disc rather than drum brakes and independent suspension all round, a very newsworthy specification at the time, was announced in March 1961 as a replacement for the XK150. The first of several E-Type models was powered by the familiar XK six, initially being of 3791cc capacity and producing an impressive 265bhp at the flywheel.
This E-Type, an original right-hand drive 4.2 roadster with ex-factory numbers still matching, first left Jaguar's Browns Lane works in 1966 - although in 1999 whilst in present ownership has been in receipt of a total recommissioning. Whilst the original subframe has been retained, as have the original engine and transmission, a new bodyshell from marque specialists Martin Robey has been employed along with a new bonnet. The documents file contains photos showing the car through various stages of the restoration work.
Current condition of monocoque, panels and silver paintwork are described as good with chrome wire wheels all good and the black leather trim and blue mohair hood clean. The electrical items, which include headlights uprated to halogen, are said to be good and both the 4.2-litre six-cylinder motor and the four-speed manual gearbox are reportedly in good order. The mileage displayed when entered for this sale read 60,016 and the latest MOT will be valid until next March.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
