Lot details Registration No: HLK 58T Chassis No: V850R12035 Mot Expiry: Sept 2007
Launched at the October 1978 Birmingham Motor Show, the Fourth Series or Oscar India V8 (Oscar India being AM factory 'shorthand' for October Introduction) sported a re-profiled 'power bulge' bonnet, subtly integrated rear lip spoiler and GKN alloy wheels. Little changed beneath its aluminium skin, the model utilised the same independent coil-sprung front suspension, De Dion rear axle, four-wheel disc brakes and power assisted rack and pinion steering as its predecessors. Predominantly allied to three-speed Torqueflite automatic transmission, the Tadek Marek designed 5340cc DOHC V8 engine was fed via quad Weber carburettors. Thus equipped, Autocar magazine found the Oscar India to be capable of 146mph and 0-60mph in 7.2 seconds. Cementing its Grand Tourer credentials, the fixed-head boasted a revised interior complete with leather headlining and burr walnut dashboard / door cappings. An occasional four-seater, the Oscar India V8 remained in production for seven and half years during which time just 291 are thought to have been made.
Finished in Salisbury Blue with light blue leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "fair" condition with regard to its 5340cc engine, three-speed automatic transmission, electrical equipment and interior trim. Though, he notes that the paintwork "needs some attention" and that the chassis / body could do with "some work". Said to have had just two keepers and to have covered 132,750 miles from new, 'HLK 58T' has been in the current ownership since 1982. Apparently treated to an engine rebuild by P.A. Smith in 1991, it runs on unleaded fuel plus a suitable additive. Benefiting from some interior renovation (reupholstered front seats / reconnollised rear ones) and a respray in 2004, the Aston would apparently be enhanced by new bumpers. The subject of "regular servicing and repairs", we are informed that 'HLK 58T' is in almost daily use. Summed up by the seller as a car that has given him "great pleasure over the years" but that is now somewhat "tired" and which will therefore require some remedial fettling of its structure and suspension in due course, this Aston Martin V8 nevertheless represents great value. Riding on alloy wheels, it is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until September 28th 2007 and road tax until March 31st 2007.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
