1984 Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit

Lot details
Registration No: A47 TYF
Chassis No: SCAZS0009ECH09060
Mot Expiry: Feb 2011

Launched in 1980, the Silver Spirit relied heavily upon the underpinnings of its Shadow predecessor prompting Autocar to comment that its raison d'etre was more to do with "maintaining traditional standards rather than making a spectacular advance". Nevertheless, the Spirit was credited with handling and roadholding that were "the best yet from Rolls-Royce". Its all-round independent coil-and-wishbone suspension featured automatic, olio-pneumatic ride height control to the rear and adjustable dampers at the front. Powered by the ubiquitous 6750cc, OHV V8 engine mated to three-speed automatic transmission, it was reputedly capable of 120mph and benefited from power assistance to both its disc brakes and steering rack. Importantly, this evolutionary design remained faithful to the luxurious ambience of its predecessors using only the finest quality hides, carpets, chrome fittings and wood veneers for its matchless interior. Only in production between 1980 and 1989 (by which time it had gained Bosch fuel injection), just 8,129 Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit Saloons are thought to have been made.

Finished in dark silver metallic with mushroom leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "excellent" condition with regard to its engine, automatic transmission, electrical equipment, interior trim, bodywork and paintwork. Reportedly part of a private collection for the past two years during which time its odometer reading has increased by just 1,569 to a genuine 34,569 miles, 'A47 TYF' is further understood to have been "maintained regardless of cost". Apparently showing no signs of under body corrosion, the Rolls-Royce is considered by the seller to be "a dream to drive and one of the best for sure". Last serviced by Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialists, Prestige Services of Harrogate at 34,413 miles on 28th October 2009, this exceptional Silver Spirit is offered for sale with mileage verifying paperwork (partial service history, assorted bills / receipts and various old MOTs) as well as a current MOT certificate valid until February 2011 and road fund licence valid until April 2010.
