Lot details Registration No: MAS 899 Chassis No: TS34140 Mot Expiry: Sept 2010
Final evolution of the Triumph TR2/TR3 sportscar line (save for the American market TR3B), the TR3A was introduced in September 1957. Great fun to drive, its tough box-section chassis featured independent coil-and-wishbone front suspension, a leaf-sprung 'live' rear axle and disc / drum brakes. Fitted with a 1991cc four-cylinder OHV unit developing some 104bhp and 117lbft of torque, it was reputedly capable of 104mph. A great sales success on both sides of the Atlantic, the model provided a rather more visceral alternative to its MG and Jaguar competition.
Finished in red with black leather upholstery, this particular example is variously described by the vendor as being in "excellent" (engine, four-speed manual plus overdrive gearbox), "immaculate" (bodywork, paintwork), "all working" (electrical equipment) or "all new" (interior trim) condition. Said to have been "lovingly restored from the chassis upwards", `MAS 899' has apparently benefited from a wealth of new parts including the following: "hood, tonneau cover, sidescreens, carpets, Minilite-style alloys, tyres". As well as "an upgraded engine, refurbished gearbox and overhauled disc brakes", the two-seater was treated to "rejuvenated chromework". Understood to have covered some 4,500 miles since work was completed, this nicely presented TR3A is offered for sale with numerous restoration photographs and MOT certificate valid until September 2010. While, the roadster's original steel wheels are available for collection if so desired.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
