Based in Noale, the Aprilia concern entered motorcycle production in 1960 with a moped, a natural extension of their main interest, bicycle production. By the mid seventies a decline in bicycle sales prompted the company to look for alternatives with the manufacture of off-road motorcycles, then a growing market sector, being chosen. Success followed rapidly in both motocross and trials. A decision to move into the street bike market prompted a move into road racing with their first 250 twin cylinder machine appearing at the Kyalami Grand Prix on the 23rd March 1985. Following the pattern that they had established with their off road activities, the company were soon at the head of the field. Their next step, taken in the early 90's, was to contest the 125cc class, an important market sector in Italy where Grand Prix success could be used to support the sales of "race replica" styled road machines.
This example of the 1994 Rotax powered RS125GP was campaigned by Team Nolan in Grand Prix's until 1998, with Frederico Cerroni in the saddle. It is fitted with White Power forks and suspension and is described as being in good running order with good cosmetics.
