By the time the XK150 was launched in May 1957, Jaguar had already won Le Mans four times - what better platform on which to unveil a new model? Though the newcomer was a logical progression of the XK140, subtle changes to the bodywork endowed this final iteration of the original XK line with a distinctly more contemporary air and generously proportioned cabin - they included the replacement of the split windscreen with a single sweep of toughened glass, a taller waistline and notably slimmer doors. It benefited from the adoption of four-wheel disc brakes and could be had with a choice of 3.4-litre or 3.8-litre DOHC straight-six engines (various states of tune were offered - eg the Special Equipment 3.4-litre version was credited with 210bhp) allied to either four-speed manual or three-speed automatic transmission. At launch the XK150 was offered in Fixed Head Coupe and Drophead Coupe guises, with the Roadster following in 1958. Only in production for four years, the total number of home market Fixed Head Coupes has been estimated at just 1,205.
The nicely presented XK150 being offered is a right-hand drive, home market Fixed Head Coupe from 1958. Originally Grey, it is these days finished in Old English White complemented by Red leather upholstery and Cream carpets. It is equipped with the 3.4-litre version of the XK engine coupled to a manual gearbox plus desirable overdrive. This car has reportedly been the subject of 15-year restoration, for which there are receipts totalling £18,000. It sports a bespoke wooden facia complete with Red leather roll top, unique wood rim steering wheel, immaculate chrome wire wheels, matching fog and spot lights and chrome GB plate. The vendor unsurprisingly now rates the bodywork and engine as "excellent" and is selling '561 EKX' complete with history file and MOT into May 2013.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
