Lot details Registration No: BGO 820 Chassis No: 210463 Mot Expiry: T.B.A.
A derivative of the earlier 16/65 model, the Lagonda 3-Litre was introduced in 1928. Progressively developed in line with its smaller 2-Litre sibling, it made the transition from 'High Chassis' to 'Low Chassis' specification early the following decade. A somewhat conventional ladder-frame design equipped with all-round semi-elliptic leaf-sprung suspension and four-wheel drum brakes, it was nevertheless impeccably built. Powered by a 2931cc OHV straight-six engine allied to four-speed manual transmission, the model was a true thoroughbred (a point reinforced by Lord de Clifford's fine performances aboard a Works 3-litre on the 1932 RAC and Monte Carlo rallies). Priced accordingly, it enjoyed muted sales success but remained in production until 1934.
Finished in black with green leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its engine, gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. First registered in London (or so its numberplate would imply), 'BGO 820' is understood to have begun life as a saloon. Converted into a handsome four-seat Open Tourer at some later date, it has apparently been in the current family ownership for the last ten years. Starting readily upon inspection despite having not run for several weeks, the Lagonda exhibits a pleasing patina to its paintwork, fabric body covering and leather upholstery. Looking every inch the 1930s sportscar, it boasts painted wire wheels, cycle wings, sculpted running boards and a handsome wooden dashboard. Further benefiting from a hood bag, tonneau cover and windscreen pillar-mounted spotlight, it is hoped that this lovely 3-Litre will possess a new MOT certificate by the time of sale.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
