Lot details Registration No: F891MAU Chassis No: SAJJSAEVY3BB157514 Mot Expiry: Aug 2008
Launched in August 1988, the XJR-S 5.3 was the first product of the newly formed JaguarSport (a 50/50 collaboration between Jaguar and Tom Walkinshaw's TWR group). Intended to capitalise on Jaguar's sixth Le Mans victory earlier that summer not to mention its 1987 World Sportscar Championship title, the newcomer was visually distinguished from its lesser brethren by a drag reducing bodykit, matt black radiator grille and special 'Speedline' alloy wheels. Further benefiting from revised suspension (uprated front springs, modified rear radius arms, re-valved Bilstein shock absorbers etc) and more focused power-assisted steering, the flagship coupe proved a thoroughly rewarding drive. Utilising the same super smooth 5343cc SOHC engine and automatic transmission as a standard XJS V12, it was reputedly capable of 150mph. Wonderfully cocooning, the luxurious 2+2 interior was highlighted by a steering wheel and gearshift selector trimmed to match the upholstery. Initially available in Tungsten Grey only for the first 100 Le Mans celebration cars, the XJR-S 5.3 could be had in different liveries thereafter. However, it remained a strictly limited edition model with total production between 1988 and 1990 reputedly amounting to just 307.
Finished in metallic blue with cream leather upholstery (piped in blue), this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "excellent" condition with regard to its engine, automatic transmission, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres (while he rates the air conditioning and other electrical equipment as "good"). Only entering the current ownership after a year long search, 'F891 MAU' is stated to have covered just 56,600 miles from new (a figure apparently substantiated by "old MOTs and ten service stamps"). Reportedly treated to some £1,300 worth of expenditure within the last two months including "a new ABS module, service and coolant change", the Jaguar is said to be "a beautiful driving car". The last 500 miles are also understood to have seen it fitted with new front discs / callipers, fresh rear pads and replacement brake fluid. Still retaining its original cream leather handbook / document wallet, this increasingly collectible XJR-S 5.3 is offered for sale with service history, MOT certificate valid until August 2008 and current road tax.
