Lot details Registration No: BSK 635 Chassis No: TD27040 Mot Expiry: April 2005
Postwar Midgets from MG were a sales success, first the TC with its lengthy, narrow bonnet, tall and skinny tyres and beam axles all round, and then with the much more chunky looking TD replacement.
Although powered by the same four-cylinder, in-line motor with pushrod-operated valves of 1250cc capacity producing 55bhp at 5200rpm, the TD was endowed with excellent independent front suspension by wishbones and coil springs dictating a more substantial chassis and wider section tyres on smaller diameter wheels, as well as more internally spacious bodywork. The four-on-the-floor manual gearbox had synchromesh on the top three ratios. A live axle was sprung with semi-elliptic leaf springs. Drum brakes all round were hydraulically-operated.
This 1953-built TD has been in same ownership for the last fourteen years. The two-seater sports was acquired from a specialist in 1990 and then restored during 1992/3, since when it has won cups for best turned out classic at rallies. Within the documents file is a Heritage certificate confirming dating and mechanical details.
The current condition of the chassis is described as good and bodywork, painted in red, very good with ivory leather also said to be good. Both 1250cc four and four-speed manual gearbox are reportedly in very good order and electrical equipment is said to be very good too. The 99,450 mileage displayed when entered is reckoned by the entrant to be the genuine total mileage. The current MOT will be valid until next April.
