Lot details Registration No: GBZ 8134 Chassis No: 1260442A050961 Mot Expiry: Feb 2006
Introduced in 1981, two years after its saloon sibling, the W126 S-class coupe was a singularly elegant design. Styled by Bruno Sacco, the two-door, pillarless construction did little to compromise interior space. Intended as a four-seater transcontinental express, its sleek silhouette hid all-round independent suspension, disc brakes, power assisted steering and a range of brawny V8 engines mated to automatic transmission. Top of the launch range, the 500SEC was powered by a Bosch fuel-injected SOHC 4,973cc V8. An impressively smooth unit, it was quoted as developing 231bhp and 298lbft of torque. Outputs that were reputedly sufficient to propel the super coupe to 60mph in 7.5 seconds and onto a 143mph top speed.
Finished in petrol metallic with pale grey velour upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in very good overall condition. Purchased by him last year, it has since had money spent "on brakes, ignition leads and general service items" as well as a "stainless steel main exhaust section" which was installed in July 2005. Used for a "4,500 mile Continental Tour" earlier this summer during which it "ran perfectly and returned 20mpg", it is further said to be "completely rattle free, v. fast and a delight to drive". Presumed to have covered 117,000 miles from new (the absence of a history file means that this figure cannot be confirmed), it rides on smart five-spoke AMG alloy wheels and sports a distinctive bodykit. Offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until 14th February 2006 and road tax until 31st December 2005.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
