Austin Seven draughtsman Stanley Edge - at the time an eighteen year old who perfected a new small car for Herbert Austin away from the Longbridge works at the boss's country home of Lickey Grange - was certainly influenced by Peugeot's Quadrilette. For the 1922-launched £165 A7 tourer had an A-frame chassis, transverse-leaf front suspension and quarter elliptics at the rear, and a four-cylinder, water-cooled engine initially of 696cc but soon of 747cc capacity. Having brakes retarding all four wheels, however, was very new.
According to the original logbook, this Birmingham-built Austin 7 saloon was first registered 14 April 1932 to a first owner in Wilmslow, Cheshire. The registered owner information tells us that it then spent most of its life in Salford and Chortlton-cum-Hardy ownership in Lancashire.
The right-hand drive two-door, which has been off the road for over thirty years and in need of full restoration, though is said still to be complete, is only being sold today due to illness. A super project, this, and one that would be entirely practical to take on and see through.
PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle is a non runner.
