Triumph re-entered the 350cc class in 1957 with the introduction of the 3TA or type Twenty One, its first unit-construction model, which was quickly joined by a 500cc version which adopted the famous "Speed Twin" title and was coded the 5TA. In the Meriden tradition the touring models were subsequently joined by sporting variants, the first to undergo the "sports" treatment being the 5TA which was joined by the first unit construction Tiger 100, the T100A during 1959. The equivalent 350 did not make its debut until October 1962 when the Tiger 90 arrived. The "baby" Tiger looked smart and went well too, top speed under favourable conditions being a genuine 90mph.
First registered in Sussex, this Tiger 90 was purchased by its previous owner in the north west of England, having been stored in a shed for some years. The recorded mileage when purchased was 13,666 (believed to be the genuine total from new) while the current total is some 13, 940. Its restoration was completed in 2005 and the machine was purchased by the vendor in 2006. The machine retains all its original parts, including rev counter and centre stand ("extras when new") and Dunlop wheel rims, while benefiting from a cylinder head conversion enabling the use of unleaded fuel with appropriately up-rated valves and seats. On completion the machine won 1st prize at the high peak, Derbyshire run and comes with a rosette. Finished in the correct factory colour scheme of Grenadier Red and Alaskan white, it is offered with restoration invoices and Swansea V5 Document.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
