Lot details Registration No: PRY432R Frame No: CB400F-1056282 Engine No: CB400F-E-1053433 cc: 460 MOT Expiry Date: Aug 2006
Introduced in December 1974, the jewel-like 400/4 was Honda's second smallest four-cylinder design. In many ways a scaled down version of the Japanese giant's epoch making CB750, its impressive quad-carburettor fed 408cc engine was mated to a six-speed gearbox. Noted for its turbine smoothness and agile handling, it was among the greatest sporting middleweights of its generation.
Finished in red with white and blue striping, this particular example is described by the vendor as having a sound engine, frame, electrics, transmission and cycle parts but faded paintwork. Modified into a 'café racer', it is said to have been bored out to 460cc, while other alterations have included the addition of twin front disc brakes, rear sets and a nose fairing. Wearing an Alfa exhaust system, it is believed to benefit from a Yoshimura camshaft (though, this has not been verified). Reputed to have had three previous owners, it is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until August 2006.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
