  • A superb build by renowned Vincent specialist John Mossey
  • Only 83 miles covered since completion
  • Said to run 'like a Swiss watch'

The modification of a motorcycle to improve its competitiveness has always been part of the racing game. However, the case of the post-war Vincent, particularly the twins, is quite interesting because they were raced for long, long after the moment the factory stopped production. For about 15 years, racers were finding ways to adapt the Vincent to all disciplines, from circuit-racing and sidecars to grass-track and drag racing – evidence that the the prodigious Vincent V-twin was one of the most competitive engines available at the time. World champion on two wheels and four, John Surtees, is recognised as the original Norvin creator, but many have since mated Norton’s Featherbed frame with Vincent’s formidable twin. It's not an easy task to squeeze an enormous Vincent engine into any frame successfully, as power often came at the expense of handling.

This marvellous Norvin has been produced by one of the top Vincent restorers and Norvin-builders, John Mossey, whose business JMC Classics has created and produced some exceptional Norvins and Egli-Vincents in its time.

“The basis is a Burgess featherbed frame, made to our design. This enables us to get the Vincent engine to sit more forward and lower than they used to, for better handling.”

John Mossey

It benefits from Menarini hubs, a JMC sideline frame, Ohlin shocks (from the Yamaha XJ1200), Ceriani adjustable forks, 18in flanged rims, JMC’s alloy fuel tank and oil tank, aluminium mudguards, magnesium drum brakes, a 5in speedometer, belt drive and a left-hand gear change. On top of that, it weighs a remarkably light 400lbs. The DVLA records show it as manufactured in 1968 and first registered in 2022. The vendor has only ridden the Norvin around 83 miles since its completion, and it is sadly only being sold on health grounds. Demonstrating craftsmanship at its very finest, the Norvin comes with a current V5C, and is said to start ‘on the button’ and ride very well.
