Lot details Registration No: WAS 647 Chassis No: TG8103 Mot Expiry: Jul 2004
In 1935, the newly enobled William Morris and now Lord Nuffield sold the MG Car Company to Morris Motors, making it a wholly owned subsidiary of the larger firm, the first model under the new broom being the SA, a handsome, long-bonneted, 4-door sports saloon. Postwar, the first MG saloon to be produced from 1947 was the YA. The marque soon became world famous, however, thanks to the Midget sportscars, which were produced in volume and quickly proved to be a great success at home and overseas. The first of the line was the TC with lengthy narrow bonnet, tall and narrow tyres, beam axles all round and 4-cylinder in-line engine with pushrod-operated valves of 1250cc capacity.
The 1949-manufactured MG TC offered here, a righthand drive car, returned home from Southern Australia, where, judging from its rust-free condition, this very British postwar classic has clearly benefited from residency in a dry and rust-free climate. According to the vendor, the Abingdon-built sportscar was fully renovated by a previous owner, there being photos on file recording the renovation work carried out.
Current condition of chassis, open bodywork and blue paintwork is described as being very good, the beige interior good, the motor and electrical equipment in very good order and the 4-speed manual gearbox also good. Because of its age, of course, this TC is eligible for a free tax disc and has been MOT tested until July.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
