The Fabrica Italiana di Automobili first set up shop in Turin in 1899 and went on to become an Agnelli family owned giant which has progressively taken over most of the Italian motor industry. The X1/9 saw Fiat enter the 2-seater popular sports-car market. Giuseppe Puleo created an ingenious car employing many Fiat 128 components with Bertone designed coupe bodywork. Production of the centrally-mounted GT commenced in 1972.
Offered here is one of the last of the final and very limited edition run of the X1/9 model produced in 1989. The right-hand drive Targa-top coupe is equipped with many factory extras such as alloy wheels and electric windows, this one with CD player. The metallic blue bodywork is said to be good and the blue interior fair. The 1498cc 4-cylinder engine and electrical equipment are reportedly in good order and the 5-speed manual transmission fair. The 70,650 mileage displayed when entered for this sale is believed to be the genuine total from new for this very attractive little Grand Tourer.
