Lot details Registration No: AFR 453 Chassis No: 5848 Mot Expiry: June 2010
Introduced in 1936, the Clement Talbot 10hp was promoted as 'Britain's Most Exclusive Light Car'. A product of the Rootes Group, the newcomer was based on a modified Hillman Aero Minx chassis. First registered on 12th April 1938, this Clement Talbot 10 had had seven previous recorded keepers before being entering the current ownership as a non-runner in June 2006. Subject to a casual rolling refurbishment, work is still required to some areas of the ash frame and bodywork but the 1185cc four-cylinder engine runs well. The car is equipped with the four-speed gearbox and has had its steering overhauled (new king pins / bushes, new old stock bronze steering nut etc). Suspension-wise, the road springs appear to be in good order, while the shock absorbers may need re-filling / refurbishing. Original front and rear seats have been re-covered in leatherette, professionally made carpets are also installed. The door cards and other interior side panel still require re-covering and the material to finish this work is included. The body colour is basically the original gunmetal grey; though would definitely benefit from a re-paint. The black vinyl weather gear is complete with side screens, hood bag and a full tonneau cover. The vendor comments: "The vehicle is sold strictly as seen. I am not aware of any major body problems but there is some rust damage to the lower rear body (below boot) which will require welding. The electrics work but could do with tidying. The original tail lamps have been enhanced by fitting additional but period type stop / tail lamps and suitable flashing indicators feature front and rear". The car was written-up in the June 1985 issue of The Automobile magazine whilst owned by Simon Parry (though, its appearance has deteriorated somewhat over the last twenty four years). Accompanying paperwork comprises an original type handbook, relevant copy of The Automobile and sundry other items. A quantity of spares are available free of charge to the successful purchaser but will need collecting from Leicestershire (set of splined hubs / wire wheels, chassis frame, cylinder head, dynamo, carburettor etc). Shabby but stylish, this appealing pre-WW2 four-seater tourer is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until June 2010 and historic class (free) road tax.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
