Once the most respected manufacturer of replica Ford GT40 kits in the world, GT Developments rose to prominence in the mid 1980s when they began producing a spaceframe chassis that not only aped the original's all-round double-wishbone independent suspension layout but also proved capable of handling serious V8 power. Operating from premises in Poole, Dorset under the guidance of Ray Christopher their reproduction glassfibre bodywork was also praised for its accuracy / authenticity.
Finished in white with black leather 'brass ring' seats and grey carpets, this particular left-hand drive example has been part of the collection for the last ten years. Believed to have covered just 288 miles since being professionally refurbished by Adcox Imports of Pensacola, Florida in 1994, it boasts an impressive specification. Powered by a Ford Motorsport M-6007-A50 Long Block 302ci V8 complete with GT40 cylinder heads, GT40 valve train, SVO roller cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM 3 inlet manifold, Carter AFB 9755 750cfm carburettor and Mallory Hyfire IA ignition system, it is reputed to develop some 300bhp @ 6,500rpm. Renault-derived, its five-speed transaxle is operated via a single-plate clutch. Riding on three-piece modular fifteen-inch alloy wheels (6J front, 9J rear) shod with BF Goodrich VR rated tyres, it further benefits from vented / solid ten-inch disc brakes, 12swg aluminium 'explosafe' filled sill-mounted fuel tanks, a four-core high-efficiency radiator and rack and pinion steering. Allegedly capable of 160mph and 0-60mph in 5.8 seconds, accompanying paperwork includes a well-documented build file / manual, a previous bill of sale for $90,000 and a State of Alabama registration document that interestingly identifies the GTD 40 as a 1966 car.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
