Lot details Registration No: MUM 65V Chassis No: M3KX112312 Mot Expiry: April 2007
Introduced in May 1975, the Chevette was notable as Vauxhall's first small hatchback. A neat three-door design with frontal styling cues taken from the 'Droop Snoot' Firenza, its monocoque bodyshell featured independent double-wishbone front suspension, a Panhard-rod located coil-sprung 'live' rear axle, dual circuit servo-assisted brakes and rack and pinion steering. Powered by a 1256cc OHV four-cylinder engine, its 57bhp and 66lbft of torque outputs were fed to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox. An engaging drive, it was reputedly capable of over 90mph in base trim. Equipped with two-speed fan, radial tyres, reversing lamps and heated rear windscreen as standard, a September 1979 facelift saw it gain flush-fitting headlamps, revised reclining front seats, door pockets, additional facia vents and a rear fog lamp. A best-seller during the 1970s, it remained in production until 1984.
Finished in Jamaica Yellow with tan cloth upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "very good" condition with regard to its engine, transmission, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. Said to be a "one lady owner car", it is believed but not warranted to have covered just 8,967 miles from new. Still accompanied by "an original purchase order form and invoice", it boasts such extras as a "Tudor Riviera sunroof, mud flaps and Dinitrol treatment" (the latter possibly explaining its state of preservation). Although, off the road since 1999, we understand that 'MUM 65V' has now been recommissioned and "should have a full MOT test by the time of sale". A wonderful piece of period nostalgia, this "really nice car" also reportedly comes with its "original registration document".
PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle has an MOT until April 2007.
