Lot details
Registration No: YLX182X
Chassis No: CRH0050425
Mot Expiry: April 2008

Named after a region famous for its twisting roads and picturesque scenery, the Corniche fixed-head was introduced in 1971. Styled in-house by Bill Allen, the newcomer was available in both Rolls-Royce and Bentley guises. Conceived as a high-speed express, its cocooning four-seater cabin was bedecked in soft hides, plush carpets and beautifully finished wood veneers. Further enhanced by a tuned, low-loss exhaust version of Crewe's staple 6750cc V8 engine mated to automatic transmission the model's self-levelling rear suspension and plethora of electric motors made for an enjoyably cosseting experience. Visually distinguished by its alloy / rubber bumpers and front air-dam, the Corniche II fixed-head arrived in 1977. Featuring improved front suspension geometry, split level air-conditioning and sharper power-assisted rack and pinion steering, it remained in production until 1982. Reassuringly exclusive, just 1,108 Corniche fixed heads are thought to have been made during the model's eleven year lifespan.

Finished in Royal Blue with tan hide upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "very good" condition with regard to its engine, automatic transmission, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork and paintwork. Reportedly supplied new by H.A. Fox of St. James Street (London) on 5th February 1982, 'YLX 182X' is thought to be one of the last fixed-head coupes made. Benefiting from "full service history", it is stated to have covered just 53,700 miles from new (though, only 39,800 of these are shown on the odometer due to a speedometer change in December 1986). Entering the previous ownership during May 1999, the Rolls-Royce was swiftly despatched to marque specialists RR&B of Bromsgrove with orders that it be thoroughly gone through. The resultant work totalled some £7,800 and included the fitting of a stainless steel exhaust, new gearbox seals, fresh engine mounts and replacement propshaft UJs as well as an extensive brake overhaul (new discs, accumulator spheres etc). Said to have travelled less than 6,000 miles since then, 'YLX 182X' rides on alloy wheels shod with new tyres. An appealing proposition, this late model Corniche fixed-head is offered for sale with aforementioned "sixteen stamp" service history, original handbooks, MOT certificate valid until April 2008 and road tax valid until November 2007.

PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle caries a pre-VIN system chassis number and therefore may have been manufactured prior to 1982.
