Lot details Registration No: SRE874L Chassis No: GHN5302244G Mot Expiry: Sept 2003
Being auctioned here is a 1973 Abingdon-built MGB roadster with factory hardtop and aluminium bonnet, which was totally rebuilt in 1994 for taking part in hill climbs, whilst at the same time being entirely practical for road use. More recently, the right-hand drive sports has been in receipt of £1700 worth of refining and tuning work with attention to tacho, carbs and brakes with descriptive invoices on file from leading historic sportscar specialist Denis Welch.
As a wise precaution for participating at track days, an oil surge warning light has been fitted. Ride and handling had already been enhanced with Moss coil-over suspension kit, lowered springs with Spax competition shock absorbers and an anti-roll bar; a test session at Donington confirming that SRE 874L handles extremely well.
Current condition of open two-door body shell - Waxoyled and mainly subjected only to dry day use - is described as excellent with the Aston Martin Suffolk Red paintwork very good. The alloys wheels and the tyres as well as the black interior are also said to be very good. The four-cylinder B Series motor, which is of 1950cc capacity, has been balanced, and has a Peter Burgess Stage 3 head and fast road cam, is reportedly in excellent order as are the four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive and the electrical equipment.
On file is a fully charted rebuild history with photo record of work carried out. The 93,950 mileage displayed when entered is believed by the entrant to be the genuine total, while the current MOT will be valid until October.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
