Lot details Registration No: TEC176V Chassis No: 93A0141036 Mot Expiry: April 2006
Launched in 1976, the Porsche 924 received a rather lukewarm welcome from the motoring press. Known to have begun life as an abandoned VAG project, it was castigated (like the 912 and 914 before it) for not being a 'proper' Porsche. Although, few criticised its balanced handling, many considered it to be under-powered. No stranger to forced induction, the Stuttgart manufacturer responded by harnessing the exhaust gases from the 924's 1984cc four-cylinder engine. Introduced in 1978, the resultant 924 Turbo developed a quoted 170bhp and 181lbft of torque (177bhp and 184lbft from 1980). Reputedly capable of 144mph and 0-60mph in 6.9 seconds, its performance was on a par with that of the contemporary Ferrari 308. Suitably upgraded with stiffer suspension (coil-sprung front / torsion-bar rear), four-wheel disc brakes and stronger five-speed transmission, the new model married power with precision. Finished in Porsche GP White 507 with Burgundy Pinstripe cloth upholstery, this particular example is variously described by the vendor as being in "very good" (engine, 'dog-leg' gearbox, electrical equipment) or "mint" (interior trim, bodywork, paintwork) condition. Cosmetically enhanced with a "Carrera GT bodykit" (including "correct rear wheelarch in-fills") as part of an "extensive nut and bolt rebuild in 1999" which also saw "many fittings either re-anodised or powder coated", this imposing Porsche is said to have "only covered approximately 1,400 miles" since work was completed. Riding on "as new genuine Fuchs lightweight alloy rims" (7-inch front / 8-inch rear), it apparently retains an "unused space-saver spare", "original Porsche Air Compressor", "boxed tool kit" and "genuine Porsche roll-up Targa roof case (rare)". Benefiting from "electric Turbo front seats", a crack-free "dash pad" and "genuine overmats", its smart 2+2 cabin also boasts an oil-pressure gauge, ammeter and clock. Sporting "new Bilstein rear shocks" and a white-painted floorpan, it is believed but not warranted to have covered 84,000 miles from new. A convincing Carrera GT lookalike with the bonus of right-hand drive, it is offered for sale with "original service book", "owner's manual", sundry old MOTs / tax discs and current MOT certificate valid until 26th April 2006.
