Lot details Registration No: OTG 40X Chassis No: KVA-397 Mot Expiry: Mar 2005
OTG 40X was the first KVA GT40 to be built by Ford Swansea plant engineer Ken Vincent Attwell, hence the KVA initials. The moulds employed to achieve such totally convincing looking body panels, this one externally based on the Mk3, as well as the inspiration for his Tycoch-produced reps came from genuine GT40s in Ford's own historic vehicle collection based in South Wales.
The Mk3 was the last of the famous line that had begun in 1963 when Ford decided to build a car which would win Le Mans, which it did four times, as well as the World Constructors' title. The low-slung grand tourer was called GT 40 because of the height of its roof from the ground.
Attwell designed his KVA GT40 to accept mostly Ford parts, the front suspension being a stiffened-up version of the MkIII Cortina, whilst rear springs and dampers, steering rack, radiator and brakes have been sourced from the same model.
Although this car has not been used since 1990, the vendor tells us that the Ford XR3 1.6-litre turbocharged-engine as well as the turbo itself have been freshly rebuilt and many other mechanical items recommissioned. Current condition of steel chassis and GRP bodywork are said to be good, the same description applying to red paintwork and black interior. Refurbished 4-cylinder motor and 4-speed manual transmission are reportedly also in good order. The very authentic look-alike has been MOTd and taxed until March of next year.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
